Welcome to Take Two: Beginnings, where we share a helpful resource to offer inspiration or support.
A podcast, book, article or meditation . . . a place to begin.
This week on Beginnings: One simple step for change
While Beginnings was created to support our inner lives, today we offer a simple step to change our outer world. The one thing we can all agree on is that something needs to shift. Racial inequity, the global pandemic and climate change; three crises that are deeply interconnected (explored in this article by systems thinker Elizabeth Sawin or see the work of the Hip Hop Caucus). I often feel paralyzed by the overwhelm of how to take action. What steps can I take, living in Maine with my three kids, to support the change I want to see in the world?
One thing I’ve decided I can do is think about how I spend money. Every week I purchase a WHOLE LOT of food and other products. What if I connect those purchases to the change I’d like to see? Why not exercise my choice to buy one product over another, to choose to give my money to the company that supports a similar vision?
I searched on the internet and found a helpful free app that I’ve now downloaded on my phone (I have no affiliation, whatsoever). Made by an organization called Goods Unite Us, you can search the app for mainstream brands and see where/who they are politically funding.
For me, it’s a place to begin.
May we all support each other.
