Welcome to Take Two: Beginnings, where we share a helpful resource to offer inspiration or support.

A podcast, book, article or meditation . . . a place to begin.

This week on Beginnings: a talk by Tara Brach called “Embracing Uncertainty,” a part of her “Sheltering in Place” series. She offers free talks each week.

Listening to a Tara Brach talk and a walk outside is a recipe for a better day, no matter what’s happening in your life. Here, she does a masterful job exploring our almost universal fear of uncertainty. We hide from it or distract ourselves, acting like our future is certain. When we can’t pretend any longer and are confronted with uncertainty head-on, like we are these days, how do we typically react? Our “inner-controller” takes over and our “mind gets narrowed and fixated and obsessive, always trying to figure things out, often blaming or trying to control others.”

This talk offers strategies to overcome our deep fear of uncertainty.

Tara Brach also has a new book, Radical Compassion: Learning to Love Yourself and Your World with the Practice of RAIN, for those who are interested in learning more about her teachings. RAIN (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) is her guidance for dealing with challenging emotions, and it is incredibly powerful.

May we all be happy!
